The gold, tantalum, tungsten, tin and other metal minerals (referred to as 3TG) mined in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and its nine neighboring countries - Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, South Sudan, Zambia, Angola, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda - are called "conflict minerals" because their extraction involves severe human rights violations, environmental degradation, and potential financing of violent conflicts in Central Africa. These metals may be widely used in information and communication technology products.
